OK, but first, why javascritp:void(0);? what does that lot mean?

You could have a familiar, all it comes down to is you get a pet. full stop.

Lol. Anyhoo, might be wrong in fact probs am but you either make a familiar or just go find a black cat from the nearest pet shop. Dunno how you make them, they're some kind of magical construct.

I'm not sure where the idea that a pet is the same as a familiar came from. I guess I have to blame it on some of the crop of poorly researched books on the market these days. But the fact of the matter is that our beloved pets and a Witch's familiar are very, very different things.

A Witch's familiar is an animal spirit or a magical construct created by the Witch or the Magician as an adjunct to their magical workings, as a repository for power, and if needed as a defense against magical attack from another magic user. A Witch or a magician can draw upon the energies of the familiar when they need an extra boost of energy in a magical working. Conceivably if the spell is important enough, the Witch could completely drain the familiar of energy causing it to "die" or cease to exist. And in the case of a magical attack, the attack could be diverted to the familiar so that it would be the familiar which is destroyed rather than the magic user. None of these are things that I think any of us would want to do with our pets.

There is an excellent article on familars here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Familiar_spirit

Animals are very sensitive to the energies around them and they may be drawn to us when we are working magic because they can sense the energy. They also want to be around their people, which again will make them want to be where we are..and that may be where we are doing magic. Neither of these things makes the animal a familiar or inherently magical in and of itself.

Those behaviors that we tolerate become our standards.

How do you classify something as a familiar? An animal that lives with you?

Wheeeee! Now, the reason everyone thinks a pet is the same as a familiar is because lots of films and story books have a witch with a black cat that she calls a familiar.

I was thinking about this for a while.

Honestly, there's only one answer I can come up with for this: The animal spirit guide. Find yours, then get a pet that is that same animal (provided it's real and... yknow... not exotic... Tiger or anything). If it's a crow, get a domesticated crow. That's about the closest thing to a material familiar that I could think one could attain.

Does thinking you're the only sane person left on the planet make you crazy?

I agree with joe I did it the other day and found out mines a cat. Cheesy Some things you may experiance in doing this are:
There will be alot of animals in your head and they will seem very real.
You will dream of the animal that night.
heres the link to the spell and thing you need are pen/pencil and a sheet of paper http://www.whitemagic.ca/spell/Spirit-Animal--What-You-Really-.html

hope it works for you. Grin

Maybe time of day (sometimes i sleep in the day >__>)

I've got about 2 dozen gem stones. Just bought a Hematite necklace and a clear quartz...slab sort of thing. Looks like a worry stone on a keychain. Been getting them acclimated to me, so if the dreaming can be affected by gems, I'm kinda screwed atm XD

Edit: Okay, scratch 2 dozen. I've got 14 exactly unless you count pewter. Which I don't think does count.

Edit Edit: ...Irish marble worry stones as well. Got a couple of them. >->

Edit Edit Edit: Maybe there's some more under my bed....
